Point Loma

Point Loma is located on a peninsula in southern San Diego. Just south of Point Loma is the ocean, just west is the ocean, just north is Mission Beach (across the water), and just east (across the water) is Coronado.

When European explorers found the California coast, they landed in Point Loma! Today, Point Loma is essential to San Diego’s function as a military town. There are numerous military institutions in the area. Interestingly, Liberty Station used to be a military training base, but has since been converted into a hotspot for restaurants and retail. Perhaps you’ve heard that Stone opened a location in Liberty Station! It's massive and they even brew “small” batches there for visitors to try.

Point Loma has a good amount of other restaurants and bars, such as Slater's 50/50 and Phil's BBQ (it’s not far from Point Loma, and is hugely popular, as seen by the constant line). There are also beaches and Point Loma Nazarene University. The Point Loma lighthouse and Cabrillo National Monument are beautiful, and certain parts of Point Loma offer absolutely break-taking views of the city. There is some good hiking in Point Loma that everyone will enjoy.

Parts of Point Loma can be difficult to get to and are far away from the freeway, as the community is a peninsula.  It is a beautiful community in San Diego that should be explored.
